The Role of Honeycomb Ceramic in RTO Equipment for Waterproof Membranes
The honeycomb ceramic regenerator is the core component of the RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) for waterproof membranes, directly determining heat recovery efficiency and operational stability.
Core Function: High-Efficiency Heat Recovery
Asphalt flue gas (120-200℃) is oxidized in the combustion chamber to reach 750-850℃. When the high-temperature purified airflow passes through the regenerator, its heat is stored in the ceramic. Cold air flowing in the opposite direction is preheated, achieving heat recovery. Heat recovery efficiency can reach over 95%, significantly reducing fuel consumption.
Specific Requirements for Asphalt Flue Gas
Anti-clogging: Flue gas contains tar, dust, and filler particles, which easily deposit in the pores. Large-pore regenerators with a pore density of 100-200 cpsi should be selected to extend the unclogging cycle.
Corrosion Resistance: Flue gas contains acidic gases such as H₂S and SO₂. The honeycomb ceramic is resistant to acid and alkali corrosion and will not fail due to these factors.
Thermal Shock Resistance: The RTO periodically switches airflow, and the regenerator repeatedly experiences temperature fluctuations. Cordierite has an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (≤1.5×10⁻⁶/℃), allowing it to withstand frequent thermal shocks without cracking.
Selection Considerations
Parameter | Recommendation | Rationale |
Material | Cordierite (standard temperature zone) / Corundum-mullite (high-temperature zone) | Thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance, cost-effectiveness |
Cell density | 100-200cpsi | Large cell size, clog resistance |
Wall thickness | 0.4-0.6mm | Balances heat storage capacity with clog resistance |
Dimensions | 100×100×100 mm (square) | Easy to assemble; dimensional tolerance ±1 mm |
Maintenance Focus
Pressure Drop Monitoring: If the pressure drop increases by more than 30%, clear blockages or replace the component.
Clearing Methods: For minor blockages, backflushing with compressed air; for moderate blockages, pyrolysis at 800-900℃; for severe blockages, shut down the machine, remove the component, clean it, or replace it.
Avoid Overheating: Cordierite should not exceed 1200℃, as overheating will cause sintering deformation.
Summary
The core role of honeycomb ceramic regenerators in waterproof membrane RTOs can be summarized as achieving a heat recovery efficiency of over 95% through heat storage and exchange. Selection should prioritize anti-clogging performance—cordierite material, 100-200 cpsi pore density, and precise dimensions. Regular pressure drop monitoring is crucial for ensuring long-term efficient operation. We are a Chinese supplier of honeycomb ceramic regenerators.
