Filling of Metal Random Packing
Filling of Metal Random Packing
The quality of packing directly affects the pressure drop and separation efficiency of the tower; standardized operation is crucial.
Preparation before packing
Clean the tower of debris and welding slag; check that the supporting grid is flat and secure.
Check the packing for deformation and oil contamination; stack it according to specifications.
Packing method
Methods | Operating Points | Applicable Methods |
Wet Packing | Inject water into the tower to a depth of 500-1000mm, then slowly pour in the packing material | Suitable for large-diameter towers and thin-walled packing materials |
Dry Packing | For towers with a drop of <1.5m, use chutes or cloth bags for slow descent | Suitable for small-diameter towers and high-strength packing materials |
General Points: Pour evenly from multiple points at the top of the tower, leveling the water every 1-2 meters. Secure the top pressure plate to prevent airflow impact and bouncing.
Post-Filling Inspection
Height Check: Height may be insufficient after natural settling; replenishment is required.
Pressure Drop Test: Compare with design value; deviation <20%.
Common Issues
Problem | Handling |
Packing layer subsidence | Add packing |
High pressure drop | Remove foreign objects or refill |
Deformed packing | Replace to reduce pressure drop |
Summary
The filling of random metal packing can be described as follows: cleaning the tower body, controlling the drop height, uniformly distributing the material, and compacting and fixing it. Wet filling can reduce deformation, while dry filling requires strict height limits. Checking the height and pressure drop after filling is crucial for quality verification.
